Canonpoint: A month post-AU!Stardust Crusaders; Kakyoin's returned to Tokyo following Dio's defeat and is living as an ordinary second-year student.

Background:
Part 3: Stardust Crusaders on the Jojo wiki

The differences in the overarching plot itself are minimal, even back through Phantom Blood--the Joestar family protagonists are switched with their respective Zeppeli family associates. A quick bulleted rundown of Parts 1 and 2 is here, to save space. Continuing on from that:

Part III - Stardust Crusaders
- Kakyoin awakens to his Stand (later named Hierophant Green) due to Dio's influence on the Zeppeli bloodline. He meets his grandfather Caesar and Caesar's associate/friend Mohammed Avdol, who tell him about Dio and how he stole the body of Kakyoin's great-great grandfather William A. Zeppeli.
- Kakyoin Noriaki vs Kujo Jotaro: ambushed by an enemy Stand user, Kakyoin defeats Jotaro and Star Platinum. Discovering Jotaro was under Dio's mind control via a vampiric flesh bud, Kakyoin risks his own life to remove it.
- Dio's influence on the Zeppeli bloodline beings to awaken a life-draining stand (later named Hyacinth House) in Kakyoin's mother Fujiko. Her inability to control its power combined with the malicious force which triggered it results in Fujiko falling deathly ill.
- The group plus Jotaro leaves to track down Dio and defeat him to save Kakyoin's mother, stopped nearly every step along the way by other enemy Stand users.
- Confronted while the group is on a plane, Caesar defeats a stag beetle Stand with his own, Hermit Purple.
- The group meets Jean Pierre Polnareff, another mind-controlled Stand user. With Avdol defeating him more or less as in canon, Kakyoin removes his flesh bud and Polnareff joins the group as well.
- Most of the minor Stand encounters follow or closely echo canon; Dark Blue Moon, Strength, and Devil are roughly the same, with Yellow Temperance following by impersonating Jotaro instead of Kakyoin.
- Crusaders vs. Emperor and Hanged Man: Hearing that the man who killed his sister is within reach, Polnareff tries to break off from the group to pursue him. Pointing out that separating is basically suicide, Kakyoin gets into an argument with him that turns into a fistfight on the spot. Though the group manages to stay together, things are tense until the users of Hanged Man (J. Geil) and Emperor (Hol Horse) attack: several of them are injured in the process, but J. Geil is killed by Polnareff and Hol Horse escapes.
- In the final stretch before reaching Egypt (and during a fight with the High Priestess), Caesar gets a call from his wife Suzie; not only does she know their daughter is sick, but Caesar's mother knows and is pissed.
- Upon arriving in Egypt, the group is met by a Speedwagon Foundation helicopter carrying a sixth member; instead of Iggy it's carrying the much-older-than-she-looks Lisa Lisa, Caesar's mother and former teacher.
- Kakyoin and Lisa Lisa vs. N'doul: Temporarily blinded by a strike to his eyes, Kakyoin uses his Stand to track down an enemy with an even longer range than Hierophant. N'doul's Geb is a Stand made of water, which when drawn out by Hierophant provides an excellent conductor for Lisa Lisa's expert Hamon skills.
- Jotaro and Polnareff vs. Mariah: While under the influence of a magnetic Stand, the two of them trap Mariah between a pair of magnetized cars to defeat her.
- Avdol, Kakyoin, and Caesar vs. Alessi: Simultaneously, Kakyoin and Avdol are under the influence of Alessi's age-reducing Stand and trying to evade being outright killed. Caesar stumbles upon the scene and is mistakenly turned into his twenty-year-old self circa Battle Tendency; needless to say, Alessi is quickly taken out after that.
- Jotaro vs both D'Arby brothers proceeds roughly the same as canon, with the Hol Horse/Boingo duo and Pet Shop skipped over.
- After encountering Dio in his mansion, the fight quickly intensifies with the introduction of his most dangerous subordinate Vanilla Ice. The group is scattered as the fight spills out of the mansion and into Cairo itself as the sun goes down.
- Polnareff, Avdol, and Lisa Lisa vs. Vanilla Ice: As the night goes on, the three of them are chased by a Stand that moves through an inaccessible void. Eventually, Polnareff uses himself as bait to draw him out, being killed in the process but allowing Avdol's fire and Lisa Lisa's Hamon to incinerate Vanilla Ice.
- Jotaro Kujo and Caesar Zeppeli vs. Dio: At the same time, Jotaro and Caesar run into Dio first; Jotaro challenges him to find out the secret of Dio's Stand, The World, but takes a lethal blow in an instant. As his last action, he realizes The World has a much more powerful version of Star Platinum's own power to slow/stop time, and has his Stand break a clock tower to communicate it.
- Caesar and Kakyoin vs. Dio: Relaying Jotaro's message of The World's true power, Caesar is put out of commission thanks to a knife thrown by Dio. Before passing out and nearly dying, he gives Kakyoin the remainder of his Hamon energy as protection; with it around both him and his Stand, a vampire like Dio can't land a direct hit on him. After a mostly one-sided fight involving Kakyoin dodging a lot of knives and trying to guard against frozen time, he uses Hierophant's possession ability to invade Dio's body and mind, breaking both apart from the inside and defeating him.
- Dio's body is left out in the sunlight to turn to ashes; after Kakyoin reads and burns Dio's journal, the surviving Crusaders return home. Fujiko's illness is cured with Dio's death, and subsequently Caesar and Kakyoin begin to teach her to control her own Stand.

Personality:

The major divergence in Kakyoin's personality versus his canon self is rooted in not having been born with his Stand. In canon Kakyoin spends most of his life refusing to try to relate to people who couldn't see his Hierophant, and ends up a withdrawn teenager somewhat lacking in social skills. In this alternate universe, not having it results in him growing up a reasonably well-adjusted individual; while still reticent to some degree, he's more likely to speak up in a given situation, or be more willing to simply approach others for conversational purposes. The lack of a lonely childhood lets his general personality come out more often--while he's courteous to a point, Kakyoin is also hotheaded, sarcastic, and occasionally kind of a smartass, just like most normal teenagers. Around people he's just met, he's polite and careful with his words. Around people he knows a little better, Kakyoin's true self is revealed as someone who loves teasing his friends, giving them as much trouble and smart remarks as they're willing to give him in return. Following the trip to Egypt, that politeness comes with a tendency to fake a smile and cheerful disposition; he keeps his problems and concerns to himself wherever possible rather than concern people outside of his family with them. As far as he's concerned, getting other people involved with his family's affairs is a good way to get well-meaning bystanders killed. But just like his canon self, when he does befriend people Kakyoin is fully loyal and devoted to them, supporting those he cares about without question both in and out of battle.

While he prides himself on his cleverness and strategic skill, Kakyoin doesn't always think before he talks or acts. In canon he's usually the one to defuse or take control of a dangerous situation before it takes a bad turn--here, he's just as often influenced by a nasty temper inherited from his grandfather Caesar 'I Make Poor Decisions' Zeppeli. The result is a very delicate 60-40 balance between 'reason and logical thought' versus 'throw stupid ideas at the situation until it's resolved'. Whichever response a given situation gets depends largely on whether or not it's made him angry enough to throw strategic thought out the window and skip to acting on impulse. On one side, his Stand lacking physical power means he has to be a quick thinker in a fight. Hierophant's nature lends itself to traps and tripwires, Kakyoin developing the strategic ability to lead his opponents along until he can put them in a position to be cornered by his Stand. But on the other hand, upon being told the removal of Dio's flesh bud would kill Jotaro and could kill them both if removed, he angrily snaps that a chance of dying was no reason not to try. Completely throwing aside the very real likelihood of dying on the spot and not thinking for a second about what he's doing, he removes it by sheer force of stubbornness and anger.

Following on that point: as clever as he is, Kakyoin also has a poor perspective of risk vs. reward where his own health and safety is concerned. Self-sacrificing to a fault, he is the kind of person willing to risk his life if he decides doing so could get worthwhile results. By the end of the trip to Egypt, this is taken to a logical extreme: he fights a losing battle against Dio simply because there was at best a 0.1% chance he could win (even if he died trying). While he considers himself something of a coward, truthfully he's far less so than the average teenager. As much as he comes to realize the fight against Dio was much greater in scale than initially expected, he never thinks about turning back despite being afraid of his friends' lives as well as his own many times over. By the time he's left alone to fight their archenemy, Kakyoin sees himself as more of an agent of a legacy that goes far beyond just himself; that is to say, his outlook goes from 'I'm not afraid because this is the right thing to do' to 'this is what I have to do, so it doesn't matter if I'm afraid'. He tends to act older than he is when a given situation gets serious, like someone that's either forgotten life-and-death situations aren't normal for eighteen year old kids, or like someone that just doesn't care that they aren't. Over the course of the fifty-day trip from Tokyo to Cairo, Noriaki Kakyoin turns from a overwhelmed teenager to a soldier and commander, battle-worn and just a bit jaded by the whole whirlwind experience.

Wish:

'I wish that it had been me instead of them!'

Mindset: Kakyoin's wish is one made on impulse, out of frustration and a large amount of survivor's guilt. It's almost more of a demand than a wish at that point, made out of the desire to both rectify what he sees as a personal failure and to have control over circumstances about which nothing could have been done. As much as he knows it was necessary for someone to take on the responsibility of stopping Dio, he feels as though he had little to no control or choice in the matter. Kakyoin hates that his family's supposed destiny cost his friends their lives, and as impulsive as the wish is part of him thinks that undoing that is worth throwing the whole legacy out the window.

Which is going to be a problem.

Effect: Jotaro Kujo and Jean Pierre Polnareff are alive even after having been killed by Dio and Vanilla Ice respectively in Cairo, but...

Repercussions: Karmic destiny and fate are entirely real forces in the JJBA multiverse, and messing with them isn't a good idea. With the heir to the Zeppeli legacy vanishing into thin air (especially considering how the events of Part 3 and its protagonist have a massive effect on the rest of the series in canon), the entire future of the world is in question. What Kakyoin demanded was for his friends to be alive, and they are. But what he said was 'me instead of them', and the karmic butterfly effect strikes hard. The world shifts to one where Noriaki Kakyoin died in Cairo, Caesar Zeppeli was killed fifty years beforehand, and the Joestar bloodline is the one carrying a legacy of battle.

In short, the world becomes one a little bit closer to canon. While Kakyoin might kick himself for wishing without thinking about the idea, he'll accept going to another world as a fair exchange for his friends' lives...until he finds out he just rewrote fate to put another family in a position he wouldn't wish on anyone.

Power:

PASSIVE ABILITY: Since Kakyoin's mindset in making his wish boils down to saving others at any cost to himself, it makes a twisted sort of sense for him to develop passive regeneration magic--healing himself, but not others. An increased ability to take damage in a fight and survive is going to go a long way towards enabling his self-sacrificing tendencies, and while that's going to prove a problem for his overall health, it also presents the opportunity to work through realizing that might not be the best way to function as a person. Finding out the limits of his regeneration with his own magic capacity will also force him to admit that he can't just screw around recklessly and rely on healing as a safety net.

ACTIVE ABILITY: With the effects of his wish rewriting parts of a world, I'd like Kakyoin's power to affect reality in a minor sense. Using a paintbrush, he can draw in the air to affect enemies and the area around him. His starting ability would be associated with the color red: using red paint drawn in an X or a slash to inflict damage on enemies. The amount of damage dealt would depend on range; painting from a distance wouldn't be remotely as effective as drawing directly on an enemy's body.

Later skills potentially unlocked after events would be associated with different colors, tentative examples being green creating temporary shields, blue repairing damage to inanimate objects/surroundings, or black possibly making platforms, bridges or other footholds.

The limitation would be that changing colors on the fly takes a considerable amount of magic power; cycling between more than two in a single fight would be nearly impossible, exhausting him considerably after the fact.

Weapon: A paintbrush, as stated above. Kakyoin's an artist by hobby, so using his preferred tool as a weapon suits him reasonably well.
