I'm not sure that I do either. Maybe we could compare the ones we know about at some point and see if we can determine anything from that.

It seems to me as though there are three main types of independence in Stands, with some falling on points in between. What you just described seems to be the middle ground, and the one that also seems most common. On one end of the scale would be Stands practically with their own will like Mista's and Trish's. On the other, less autonomous ones like my Hierophant. I suppose now that I examine that, it does make reasonable sense for most to fall in the center on average.
