[Because he shifted position again to turn around just enough for a kiss that probably wasn't entirely a surprise.]

[No, it certainly wasn't.

Unlike some of the other times they'd ended up sharing kisses, this one came with reasonably little surprise and relatively little fanfare. It certainly didn't bring with it the abrupt rush of a First Kiss™, nor did it come laden with the gravity of a Confession Acceptance Kiss™. It was just...nice. And quiet, and calm, and reassuring and simple; easy and natural and oddly like balm on his fraying patience and thin-stretched nerves. It was just...there, asking nothing more than to be taken as-is.

They were, too, in their own ways. Asking nothing but to live up to themselves, and not the expectations their circumstances might have demanded of them.]

[Attempting to help support Kakyoin as best he could, he shifted his hold and moved to steady him, bringing his hands to rest against him and gather him in as obligingly as he could.]

[Despite the fact that he was someone to stubbornly go after what he wanted, Kakyoin was really not a demanding individual. This wasn't a gesture to express this is what I want or even this is mine, but just something to express quiet and calm reassurance. Judging from the reaction, he guessed it was working.]

[Kakyoin raised one hand to Jotaro's face, tilting his hat back with the other--enough to lean his forehead against the other student's once he finally decided to break it off.]

...I love you. So let's just agree we'll both try to take care of ourselves as well as everyone else, okay?

...I'm trying. I can't make promises further than that, but I'm trying. Yeah.

[He nodded slowly, keeping their foreheads together even as he gently moved.]

I know. I'm...really not sure I can promise much more than to try, either. But that's all I'm going to ask--just that we both remember to make the attempt.
