Hard to say, really--he struck me as the cautious type for the most part. As you said, he's obviously clever. If I were to guess, I'd say he and I may have had similar roles as their group's strategists.
There are different levels of rank, within the organization. It's a solid hierarchy; his word is law to all the members of the group, but there are sub-bosses and lieutenants under him who have smaller amounts of power and control over their own personal groups.
The entry-level positions are where the most activity happens. Those low-level members do footwork, make deliveries, and handle small business matters for the organization. They report to a leader. That leader is probably one of several who all report to a leader of their own, and so on up until you reach the underboss, the second-in-command who oversees all those activities and reports directly to the boss.
When Giovanna was a foot soldier, Buccellati was the person he reported to.
...You know, I thought my parents might think it was weird for me to have one friend that looked like a delinquent. But if they could see this, they'd both die of shock on the spot.
[KAKYOIN...]
That doesn't really sound like the kind of position that changes all that easily, on either side. I wonder just how chaotic things really were for them.
It's not. A big problem with it is loyalty. Not just with being disloyal to the boss by taking his position, but then commanding the loyalty of everyone else the same way that the guy you just replaced did. Power doesn't change easily like that. And if you got rid of the guy before you, who says someone else won't get rid of you?
[He shrugged, hands deep in his pockets.]
That's not the point, though. The point is, a lot of times the boss will have an advisor, someone who can't overrule him, but...who's allowed to disagree with him. Who's supposed to disagree with him, when he needs it, to make sure he's seeing the whole picture.
[And there, at last, they began to come up on the strange storefront Jotaro had spotted from Spiral's rooftop, that hadn't been there before but was present now.]
[He made it to the door first, pushing it open and heading inside, but sidestepping once he was immediately in the door to leave room for Kakyoin to fall in next to him.
And whatever it was he'd been expecting, it wasn't...this. Knickknacks, paper price tags, shelves upon shelves of inexplicable junk, and a box marked "Donations" near the door. Donations? Of what, more junk?
[This is a recipe for disaster, as he is the veritable bull in the china shop and there is a lot of breakable shit in here.
For approximately the first five minutes or so, he just sort of perused around, peering at the shelves and frowning at the unintelligible assortment of random objects, never lingering too long on any one of them.
Until, that is, he spotted the acoustic guitar on a high shelf mounted on one of the walls, and went still with his eyes fixed firmly on it.]
...You said you found that photograph of us in here, right.
