My father travels. A lot. You have no concept of the amount of books he owns and the large percentage of them I've read multiple times.
[mic drop]
I never did quite manage to pick up other languages on my own without being taught, unfortunately. But I managed to retain a staggering amount of information that most people would probably term 'completely useless'.
[See, this is what he meant: he knows a great deal about Kakyoin, what he thinks of, his battle strategies, his worries and his fears-- and yet he hadn't even known his father traveled. Hell, he doesn't know anything about his parents, beyond that they thought Kakyoin was a little odd.
But man, that's awesome. He sits up, knees to his chest.]
So what else do you know about France, hm? Parlez-vous tout français?
I don't speak a word of French, so don't start babbling at me. All I know is Japanese, English, and a very small amount of Italian.
[Shrug.]
Most of what I can recall is just a little history, basic locations and how to get from one place to another, what to eat if you're not a fan of gastropods--that kind of thing.
We are living with the mafia and my Hamon teacher is Italian. Of course I'm learning that first, before Jojo sends me more horrendous pickup lines I need translated.
[...he's still mad]
Anyway, it was just an example. I'm sure there's some Japanese food you would probably think sounds just as unusual.
He's a history teacher, and he likes to be able to research things directly as well as read about them. So my family's done a fair amount of traveling.

Rice. Oh! Shit, wait-- rice buns!
[Rice balls is what he's thinking of, actually.]

Confit de canard, bouillabaisse, ratatouille, gougères, cassoulet...that's all I can think of off the top of my head, excuse my flawed pronunciation.
[What the fuck, Kakyoin.]
