Look, I'm trying to--I should say there's not really any strict 'supposed to' anything with things like this, I think. Consider possible consequences and think things through, absolutely. But when it comes to the whole...'more than friends' thing itself, there aren't really specific rules on what to do or how to proceed with it.
I've already made my decision. It's putting Jolyne at risk along with a woman I don't know yet, but I know enough to understand that the future could be a better one if I'm there to keep Jotaro from being an idiot.
[...]
...And--I mean this, sincerely--I think it would have helped a lot, if you were with us on the way to Egypt.
I don't know if you'd have developed a Stand at any point--probably not, but I don't know for certain. Either way, I think it would have been nice to have one more mostly sane person in our group, particularly to keep Joseph from being so...himself sometimes. Not to mention you'd be a lot of help in a fight with or without a Stand.
...1939 or 1988, it doesn't matter--the future isn't a certain disaster just because we might be in it.
I know, Caesar. I know because I would've followed Jotaro to Morioh and anywhere else he would have ended up going after that. I'd follow him straight into hell and back without giving him the chance to stop me.
[...]
That's why...I can't stand hearing you talk like there's just no future for you at all. You don't know that, neither do I. I'm going to do everything I can to find a way out of here, to make a different future than the one that gave Jolyne such a difficult life and turned Jotaro into someone neither of us want him to be.
I don't want you to give up when there's a chance things could be better, even if they'll never be easy.
[Kakyoin believes in the future. He knew that, he supposes, at least in an abstract way, just like he knew Kakyoin believes in him as a person. But it's, it's strange, it's unsettling to hear it out in the open like this, put so plainly. It's . . .]
[He buries his face in his folded arms for a moment, trying to hold back any indication of how much that means. When he lifts his head again, he mostly just looks sulky.]
That's okay. You don't have to be good at it, as long as you're just making some effort.
[...]
There's...actually something I've been meaning to tell you. it's not all that relevant, but I think I may as well say it now, as long as we're talking.
Okay. I just want to tell you something, and you can do whatever you want with that.
[Deep breath. He uncrossed his arms, adjusted his glasses, and looked at Caesar straight on with steady violet eyes crossed by scars. Five words, it was simple. Then it would be out of his hands and up to Caesar to decide if he wanted it to mean something.]
...My family calls me 'Noriaki'.
[Jotaro. Holly. Giorno. Polnareff. Whether or not a fifth name would be put on that list wasn't his choice--but if it was, that name would already be there.]
[He says it very quietly, and only after a small pause; and then after that pause, he pauses again, and he doesn't think about anything much. He's being quite so that he can be in this moment, this moment exactly as it is, and make sure he remembers it forever.]
[He hasn't actually smiled this whole time. He doesn't realize he's smiling now. But he is, just a little, faint and fond.]
Mm. Noriaki, then. But if you piss me off, it's full names all the way. That's how it works in my family.

Date: 2016-04-11 01:06 am (UTC)I can't tell the difference between friends and, and more than that. I don't know what that looks like. Or is supposed to, or whatever.
