[He double checks his face, making sure he's actually serious and not just entertaining him. Either is okay, but he doesn't want to invest in something if Kakyoin isn't actually interested.]

Je m'appelle Noriaki, that's the first you gotta know. Nobody's going to take you serious in France if you can't say your name.

[Dirty phrases will come later (and they will, he has every intention of teaching those in a second). But first some basics, because he loves French, he really does.]

[Kakyoin leaned his head on his hand, genuinely interested but a little cautious after having just laid the groundwork for Polnareff to make an idiot of himself.]

Je m'appelle Noriaki, got it. In Japanese that's boku no namae wa and Italian's...mi chiamo, I think.

[He scribbles those both down-- not that he's going to learn them, but he might as well, because he's got the notebook right here. Besides, maybe he can surprise Giorno with some bit of Italian.]

Right, so then-- ah, there's ça va, which can mean anything from are you okay to it's okay, or I'm< okay, things like that. You just say it back to each other-- so tonight, I could've come down and said, oye, Kakyoin, ça va?

And you'd say . . .?

I'd just say ça va right back? That seems incredibly simple.

It's versatile-- there's no good translation for it, but it's just one of those things you hear a lot. Now--

[Okay, he knows how to say his name and if he's okay, so that's pretty much the basics right there.]

Romantic or dirty? I'll give you a choice.

[He leans in on one elbow, a suitably flirtatious expression coming to his face.]

[In fact-- he reaches over, taking Kakyoin's hands in his own. Eyes sincere, expression earnest, heart so clearly swelling with love--!]

And that means what exactly?

[IT'S THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE KAKYOIN this is his forte. He grins more naturally now, dropping Kakyion's hands in favor of sitting back.]

Does it matter? It all sounds romantic-- that's the best part of French!

[For that, he'd just get a level stare and another adjusting of Kakyoin's shirt collar.]

Just don't start flirting with me. I'd be obligated to hit you in the face again.

[He might as well flirt with both of them, after all.]

I have standards, I'm afraid. You'll have to try pretty hard.

[It's not that he knows what Kakyoin said-- he doesn't, not even a little-- but he knows Kakyoin, and so he pulls a face at him.]

Well, I mean. It is kind of impressive. It's a good bar trick when you can do it with just one.

I never said it wasn't impressive, just that it's a weird thing to suddenly decide to practice.

Yeah, I guess. I think everybody's got a stupid talent like that, though. You know? One of those things they can do that most people can't, like-- I don't know-- cracking all the joints in their body or something.

You should, it's worth watching. I've won a ton of bets that way.

[A beat-- and then:]

You don't use the straw to drink, it's to let air in-- so that way you don't have to stop, you just keep drinking. And shotgunning a beer, I can do that-- but that's not a special talent, anyone can do that.

Practicing something like that really doesn't sound like the best use of one's time.

It's the best way to make friends when you're at a party and you don't know anybody! You shout look what I can do, and everyone does, and then they're impressed, and then suddenly you've got like ten more people who want to talk to you!

...That can't possibly be what people actually do to make friends. That sounds terrifying.
