I guess that'll just have to do; I can't just go throwing emeralds at people's heads and make them think a ghost is trying to kill them like I used to.
I think I told Jojo part of this once, but I didn't give him the whole story. I never really got along with anyone before I met him and the others, and I tended to get a few people picking on me for the way I looked or how I acted.
So, one day when I was around thirteen I was leaving school, and this one kid in my class just wouldn't leave me alone. You know, the type that never shuts up and never has anything worth hearing. Well, I was a perfect honor student, so I couldn't just punch him where everyone could see. Had to maintain my image, right?
[Naturally.]
I kept walking until I was sure we were out of sight of anyone else, and then I turned around to throw a punch--but it was kind of like I got a better idea at the same time, and I just put my hand out. The next thing I knew, Hierophant really let him have it; right in the face with an emerald and some cold water.
[...it's fine to be proud of beating up a thirteen year old if you were also thirteen, right?]
Obviously, he had no idea what had hit him, and I might have knocked a few other things around to play up the whole 'vengeful telekinetic' image. [did you know carrie was published in 1974] The next day, he tried to accuse me of punching him. It was his word against an honor student's with no evidence to back him up except a couple of bruises.
[A shrug.]
He never came near me again. I can't remember his name, but I sure as hell remember how scared he was of me. That's how I decided that if anyone else was going to judge how I looked, I'd make them regret it. Maybe I've been mistaken for a girl a few too many times and obviously I'm not built like Jojo or Polnareff, but I look like this because I want to.
[This story, which is dramatic and exciting enough all on its own, is peppered throughout with oohs, ahs, and gasps from the peanut gallery, population: one. Giorno's day just keeps getting better and better, honestly, and when Kakyoin gets to the vengeful telekinetic part he wiggles closer and wraps his arms around Kakyoin's arm with the world's most intense and attentive stare.]
[HE IS INTERESTED. HE IS PAYING ATTENTION. WITNESS HIM.]
[And when the story is done, he's all smiles, squeezing Kakyoin's arm and then lacing their fingers together and wiggling his toes out of a truly absurd level of satisfaction at this kid he's never met before getting his ass totally handed to him.]
You are so wonderful and so perfect and I love you so much. My only regret is that I really don't want anyone to say anything rude to you, but I also want to watch you make someone regret doing it.
[He lives the most difficult life imaginable. Save him from this.]
[Kakyoin honestly never got tired of seeing him overeager and excited. You know, like a normal kid was probably supposed to be (not that he of all people knew for sure).]
I love you too, Giorno. I'm sure someone's bound to say something stupid eventually. Or I could just beat up Polnareff sometime, but that might be mean even by my standards.
Does it? I just think it only proves I'm stubborn. I'm not going to change my hair just because a few people think I might look like a girl, and I'm sure you wouldn't either.

You make me really happy. I like that you don't let what other people think change you like that. I think that makes you really strong, you know?

Hmm, if people say something like that I usually just do it more, and louder. [AY YO FUCK YO BEAUTY STANDARDS, said Giorno Giovanna, probably.]
